I have a HD-5 and I like to know if there is a place for a block heater for the 2-71 detroit?

NO - you would need a lower hose heater or tank heater - heating the head is about all you can accomplish and that will heat part of block

a dipstick heater will help keep the oil warm but may not do too much to help it start but I never had any trouble with a little ether.

If your looking to warm oil and part of engine those magnetic heaters will work also .
Either into the small 1/4 " pipe plug on blower housing is how I start my machine

Tank heaters work quite well. They also come in different Wattage's for engine sizes. Zero Start is one company off the top of my head for starters...
