on cats?
Little kitten is wearing one of those Hartz flea collars, but want something more to effective.
I tried to follow the science, but it was not there. I then followed the money, and that’s where I found the science.

We use Frontline. Might be considered pricey but it works. Not sure how small of a dose is available.

Lars, I sell that flea & tick stuff for a living.  About the only thing that Hartz collar does is make you feel good about "the money you think you saved".  Go buy some Advantage II now produced by Elanco (used to be Bayer & yes same folks that make Roundup Wink those Bayer scientists know how to kill stuff).

The Seresto Cat collar ($68) is a sure bet as well but last 8 months.  When you break your cost down on a monthly basis it starts making more sense.  I probably have a Cat collar around here....if you want, PM me and I'll mail you a freebie.

yes, you can bathe a cat,,,takes some patience, kitchen sink, gentle spray or shallow luke warm water, but it can be done. on a young kitten, use Dawn dish soap,, the fleas will run like hell,, need to do this prolly once a week new fleas seem to hatch every day. when it gets a bit older, Adams spray works wonders...

we had a kitten the fleas were about to eat alive,, he got bathes, and adams treatments,, even being a kitten,, Adams flea spray is hard on young kittens, but it was that or the fleas were goin to eat him plum up...
HTH,,, if ya gots a friendly vet,, might ask them what will work...

Here's the scoop on Fleas & Ticks:

- Ingestion of Fleas/ Flea Larvae can lead to tapeworm.  So if your dog/ cat has a flea problems start seeing if you have a poop problem.  You can buy tapeworm meds at Walmart/ AMZ etc.

- Mosquito bites can cause heartworm which can be fatal unless a Vet catches it and you have the money to pay for it.  Note the word "Bite"......

So, for dogs:

At the Vet:
They sale RX grade products (Simparica Trio, Nexguard, Bravecto) that are monthly chews/pills but are expensive AND the bug has to bite your pet before it dies away.  The products mentioned also protect against Heartworm so the bite issue is mitigated.

Over the Counter (Petsmart, Petco, Walmart, Amazon, Chewy):

Look for products containing Imidicloprid.
This will REPEL fleas, ticks, mosquitos before they bite and will also start killing the bug critters before they can bite.

Products with this are Advantix, Seresto, Advantage and Advecta.
-  Seresto is an 8 month duration collar thats pricey at $68 but not so bad when you think about it on a per month cost.  It's pretty popular and outsells all other products on the market.

- Many of you are familar with Frontline which is a good product containing Fipronil but the bug has to bite to die......so make sure you're also applying a good heartworm med from your Vet (actually make sure you have good heartworm coverage regardless of your flea & tick choices).

As with anything....you get what you pay for so stay away from the low price stuff in dollar stores and walmart.
