If I used anything other than marsh mellows, I would always have a trap full of cats in the morning. I guess if you need to trap cats the other stuff will work. Dale

In boy scout camp, the boys had to hang their bags of marshmallows by wire in the trees. Coons would invade their tents/hooches to eat marshmallows. It was common for some of the boys to hide their stash from the other guys, couldn't fool the coons.

Cheap stinky wet cat food. If you catch a cat, pour a bucket of water over him, then let him go, he will, at high speed...

I live trapped bunch t my daughter's house using dry ct food. But that was readily available an was also what was initially attracting them. The last two SOB's started moving the trap to eat the food that was originally inside. ![]() I screwed the trap to the deck and they could not resist and I got their butts and relocated them. Kinda unnerving unscrewing the trap from the deck so I could take the ole boar for a ride.

"Relocated"? I've had city people bring out raccoons in live traps. I walk out with my .410 and stand there... let 'em know that they can open 'em, I'll let 'em get to a safe spot away from them before I blast 'em... They get all snotty about it... apparently they don't think it's appropriate to protect one's property when it's anyone other than THEM.

Golden Malrin fly bait in Coke. No need for a live trap, they don't make it more than a couple feet from the bait. To dispose of them just do a DOT style tall grass burial...

Well here we go gain down the that gruesome road on how to be cruel to animals. That really turns me off. I am of the opinion that animals have rights also. I am not a vegetarian and also have a nice buck mounted on the wall in my bar area. However making humor out of wantonly dispatching animals is beyond me. i thought maybe there was another person that had the same thoughts in that Ken asked about bait for a trap which I assumed was live a trap.

I used a small can of moist cat food in my live traps. wasn't worried about catching any cats as the POS city bots dogs all came over and killed all our outside cats. PffffT! caught lots of coons, I then take them up to the stockholders place and turn them loose!

I don't see how poison bait or a shot, is cruel. I also don't see how dropping the live trap into a 55 gallon barrel of water is cruel. all achieve sure death quickly. How did you dispatch your deer, Dave, if I may be so bold, as to ask?

Coons are like big Rats. Everyone kills Rats with poison and traps. There is no difference. My favorite is the bucket trap for Rats. I wonder if you could duplicate it with a 50 gallon drum for Coons

I don't dispatch a deer by poisoning it or drowning it and don't
make humor out of the fact that I dispatched the animal. I also do not
beat my tom tom on what woks best on defenseless animals. And the
venison is in the freezer. When a thread
degenerates into some folks making light of how to poison small animals,
I think it reveals some type of feelings or emotions inside a person
that is just not normal. And I know I am preaching to the choir (with certain individuals) when it comes to speaking my piece on this subject but I do not think I am the only one in the world that has compassion for animals and considers alternative means of dealing with a problem, if there is one.

Securely wire the bait can in the center of the trap so they have to enter trap to get at it. I used cat food as my bait.

The fly bait works quickly. I'm not making light of the situation because raccoons and possums are a common carrier of rabies and distemper. The last thing I want to see is my dogs tangle with a rabid wild animal or manage to bite my wife and kid. They're like rats and mice, nobody thinks twice about poisoning them. If they went after mice and rats that might be a little bit different, but as it is they can be dangerous and do damage.

All above are good choices! Cat food ( wet or dry) does best here for me. Fish in any form works good. So far I only got 1 big ole field cat, and he was not hurt, (just pissed), and the only 2 cats I have left don't go in the traps. I did get a rabbit in one of the coyote traps the other night!--so far can'y get the coyotes to go in! they just run past! thanks; ac fleet

My bear bait! I could have more coons than bear. Oh by the way possums do eat mice, rats and other undesirable things. To bad they look like big rats. Coons I guess trap them and let them go elsewhere.
