I'm getting ready to prime some engine parts on my wc. What's the best primer for parts like the oil filter housing and other aluminum parts?

I'll be of no help and say, polish them. Makes for a little detail in a finished project but may not be original.

Aircraft skin is aluminum, the paint does'nt fly off. Sorry I can't tell you where to buy it, or what it is. Just my first thought.

Polish and get a spray can of clearcoat. Keeps parts from flash rusting.

Chuck is correct. Zinc Chromate, not easy to find here anymore. It is the best. Tracy Martin

I've had very good luck with PPG DPLF series of epoxy primer. It comes in different colors to match the paint application. For A-C persian, i'd use DP50LF Grey. It takes less paint to cover a lighter primer. The "LF" stands for "Lead Free", so it's enviromentally friendly. It also is good if you spray the part, then let it sit for a while. You just scuff it a little, and apply the desired paint.

Zinc Chromate is what they use on airplanes and 18 weelers.

Thanks for the help guys  I found the zink chromate online at west marine but first I'll try NAPA. Next question should I reprime with regular primer before painting? I hope I don't have problems with chemical reaction with the paint.

Here http://www.paintcenter.org/rj/jun05k.cfm is another option. As it says, you won't find this in a hardware store. Perhaps an auto body shop can help you.

if you use zinc chromate do not use another primer,zinc chromate is the primer
