My b has the famous loose rear wheel. I put up with it all last year looking for 5lug rears ans adjustable front, but im not paying as much for a front end and rear hubs as i should be able to get a tractor for.
So iv draged one of my parts tractor out of the bushes. And trying to get the big nut off the center of the wheel and im about to give up! Iv tried heating, air chisel, soaking with penetrating oil, even my old stand by melting wax down into the threads with no luck. Im about ready to cut it off. I was just wondering if any one had any tricks? |

What's the famous loose rear wheel? Mine has a slight 'hop' to it that I can't figure out.

Im not sure about the threads but judging by what threads i can see i think it just regular threads.
What happens is the cast wheel center get worn-out and wont tighten up anymore It cause it to clunk and wobble back and forth a little. |

Use a 4 1/4" angle grinder with a cut off wheel. Take a slice of the nut as close as you can to the threads without cutting the threads, might need to do that on 2 opposite sides of the nut. then a big chisel and hammer.

cut an split the nut on one side it will come off' make sure your turning it the right way'also.

I still can't find a wrench to use on that oddly shaped axle nut. What wrench are you using?

Iv got a factory wrench for that, but iv been useing a big adjustable wrench and a big pipe wrench.

Can't remember exactly how it comes apart but if its that tight I'd try to pull the whole stub shaft out as the one with the worn hub probably has a worn axle too.

Kamerer makes a bunch of quality parts. They have an axle nut wrench for B & IB, I think they may have the nut too.

Take a cold chisel and make a heavy cut on each side and that will streach nut and you can remove and reuse . Dad used to do that on square nuts when parts were scarse and tools were few.

Is there a good place to get the seals and bearings needs to replace the axel shaft on while im into this? Mite as well do it all while I'm at it.

If you have a spare final drive you can find the same nut holding the bull gear in place that holds the wheel to the axle on the outside. Both have right hand threads. I have taken some off with a 4 foot pipe wrench with a 3 foot pipe on the end. I have also cut some off. Never had one come off easy.

Dick is right, there is a nice new looking nut inside the final drive if you have a downer final.
DJS I think has the cones, bearings and seal. You can also get them at any bearing supply such as https://www.motionindustries.com/ The axle seal is 415001 you can read the numbers on the cones and bearings. |
