Yes, I cleaned it out, but not the tube. I'm wondering now if it was getting much oil flow before, if it had been plugged up for a long time....I guess I need to cut open the old filter and find out! Come to think if it, the media didn't look to oily inside, just from looking at the bottom.
Keep in mind it wasn't a total overhaul....New pistons, rings, valve job, and main bearings.

You say you changed carb and gov worked fine before? Have seen the shaft seal pinch shaft on WD45's under load.

shaft seal...which seal is that? On carb or governor?
Actually I drove it around last night, going up and down this big hill we have a few times, and the governor kicked in like it should.

The water temperature is on the low side, ought to be 160 for alcohol antifreeze and 180 for permanent antifreeze. Low temperature operation causes more piston, ring, and cylinder wear because it condenses gasoline on the cylinder walls that washes lubricating oil away. Needs a new thermostat, tested in water before installation. I use an instant read cooking thermometer to read the water temperature doing that test. I don't cook with that pot or thermometer after that test.

The pins on my CA are wore some, but the hole in the weights and the hole in the gear are wore MORE than the pins. I guess it depends on what pivots as to what might wear most. Everything will be replaced on the CA if I ever get rountuit again.

Governors make me nervous because of the damage they can do when they come apart. If the weights and/or pins do't even hesitate, replace them. Also shake the shaft and see if there's play there. Loose bushings can also break weights and there you go getting into your pocket again. These things make me jittery.

Second sentence should have read: If the weights and/or pins are loose don't even hesitate, replace them.
