Thats the one I got. A YT video suggested Pine Sol and water. One bottle and the balance in water was less than 50/50. One must be cautious that cleaning solvent is compatible with the parts being cleaned

.

50/50 ultrasonic mixes seem excessive.

Water does the work, the soap and degreasers just lift the oils so the water gets in. Soap breaks oil surface tension.

I only use the soap cleaners like doing dishes.

There might be a perfect ratio in between though.

Your engine side weights aren’t actually for a CA. You have B and C weights but I think they will work.
It's the color tractor my grandpa had!

Sparky,
Thanks! Why does that not surprise me? Everything else on the CA has been miss matched and thrown together. I did search for some CA weights and see that they are a different shape too. Am I right about the knob needing to come out and I need to find another knob for the other side. Another small project!

So the continuing saga of the crusty old CA:
I set the rocker arm assembly on the head tonight.

As I was seating it I found that the # 2 riser/support was cracked on the top through the stud hole.

Going to see If I can find a good used one. I have to relearn about the initial valve setting again. I think I am losing it, or maybe it was already gone!:)

As I reviewed the oil filter base, I found a crack in that too.

I think this old girl is playing all her cards and really is one of those tractors that needs a lot of attention! Maybe just Ms Needy?

Just small moves like cleaning nuts and bolts, Buying several hundred dollars worth of parts every few days to satisfy my orange habit! And hoping a lot!
Looking forward to painting some parts if the weather warms to 60F again soon. Lots of prep to do! Nice that this is the only project in the shop right now too.
Lost about two weeks here with both of us having head colds.
I do need to go look at those other two CA's up near the lake in Grape country also!
I also need to talk with Steve at B&B about maybe making a wiring harness for this tractor. I think he might be able to do it??:)

Regards,
 Chris and Cheryl

Mixture in the ultrasonic cleaner depends on what your trying to clean. In my case it was years of grease and dirt. Lower amount of super clean/water for easier clean up. I completely rinse after its clean. The amount of crud it got of was pretty amazing.
Chris, our CA weights has a bushing and bolt that holds it in place. I will take a picture of our weights if you  would like?

When you have a C front bolster/support instead of the correct CA casting, only the B/C side weights will work.
I'll again offer the correct CA bolster/Steering support for free if you come get it, as I first did when you got into this project. I'll now also offer to trade your B/C weights for a correct pair of CA side weights with the mounting hardware, however no shipping. I've always used a long bolt with about 3 lockwashers then a nut drawn up to the head as the front mount for those weights.
If it was fun to pull in LOW gear, I could have a John Deere.
Real pullers don't have speed limits.
If you can't make it GO... make it SHINY

Allis folks,
The saga of the CA continues. I took the support out of the rocker arm assembly and barely tweeked the part.

A good used one is one its way from Brenda at Sandy Lake.
She is looking for a better oil filter base too.

We worked on the B/C weights and some heat and air hammer work removed the support plug and bolt.

Most of the hardware is cleaned and ready for paint. We continue to move forward. Next big items may be the rims.

I have a good oil filter base with stand pipe. I also have rocker shaft pedestals from a WC. Not positive if the pedestal is same as yours. I could measure it, if you're interested. $50 plus shipping.

I run into those broken supports in about every other AC engine I work on, it seems. I'm sure someone overtorqued the nuts in the past and it splits them right down the middle like that.

jvin248,
I had to Google the one horse shay concept. I see its when it falls apart all at once. Yes about like this old CA!

Phil,
Thanks I have a used support on its way. Maybe the oil filter piece also. Sandy lake has some spares tucked away also. Thanks for the support and offer.
That could have easily been overlooked and not been good for the engine/ valve system.

John,
If I ever do another one I will check that.

Spent the afternoon in the rain and wind helping the three man crew working on my grandsons new shop. Putting up steel on the west side. A good day for me to get out and do something even if it is holding the dumb end of a tape measure.

Chris... you might end up famous !
--------

the "one piece at a time" car

The one piece at a time' Cadillac made famous by the Johnny Cash

The transmission was a '53
And the motor turned out to be a '73
And when we tried to put in the bolts all the holes were gone
So we drilled it out so that it would fit
And with a little bit of help with an adapter kit
We had that engine runnin' just like a song
Now the headlight' was another sight
We had two on the left and one on the right
But when we pulled out the switch all three of 'em come on
The back end looked kinda funny too
But we put it together and when we got through
Well, that's when we noticed that we only had one tail-fin
About that time my wife walked out
And I could see in her eyes that she had her doubts
But she opened the door and said, "Honey, take me for a spin"

That would be great if you had the time to post a picture of your weight set up. A l;little thing but I just had not been around these side weights before. And the mis match of many Allis parts is interesting.
I probably need to look at a ultrasonic cleaner for the shop too!

Allis folks,
I did get the support for the rocker arm shaft. I thing this is a perfect fit for this little Frankenstein puller!

Way better than the split "high performance" version that we will set aside as another learning experience on the CA project.

Hope things are good and safe travels to those on the road for Thanksgiving!

Mike, Folks,
I don't think I would trust a brazed version. But I understand the concept! If these are the same as WD and 45's then I probably threw some away during clean out a couple months ago. I know! I should not throw anything orange away!

Not much happening on the CA project during the Thanksgiving weekend.

You're doing great Chris!!  She's coming along rather smartly.
I too have seen them brazed and I have done i to some of them myself.  I think they are better than new, they have held together for a long time now.

Have a GREAT Thanksgiving and this goes out to everyone else on here.

That type of break is common on cast iron rocker stands and not just on Allis equipment.  Many engines used those and overtightening the hold down nuts is what breaks them.  I've brazed many in the past and if done correctly it will be stronger than the original casting.

Guys,
I got an nice used oil filter base from Sandy Lake Imp. We have been very busy trying to keep dug out from under the snow. About 2.5 feet in our area maybe more?? Also the F250 is in the shop with the front end torn apart. The Allis D14 wouldn't start, my fault I left the gas on. The starter just doesn't want to spin the engine over very fast. Took over night to charge the battery and still had to use a jump pack. Got dug out.  Then the water system stopped functioning. I think the submersible installed in 1997 finally quit. Opened the well to find the steel pipe in the pit less adapter had rusted off. Had to fenangle a chain under the adapter and Grandson Mike pried up and released the adapter. He went to purchase all new pump, line, wire, and items for the repair.

Oh yeah I harvested a small doe during that also.

Bottom line is the CA waits! Looking forward to getting caught up and back on it!
Regards,
 Chris and Cheryl

AC Folks,
The CA project begins to move, thanks to our friend John. He helps me get things done and uses the shop for some of his projects too. I have most of the parts now it just needs to be put back together.
So we installed the rocker arm assembly. Then proceeded to relearn how to initially set the valves. Oh it took the Allis manual, a computer and two old brains! We had fun but had to make a couple runs at it.

The steel formed shaft support has to be installed with the slot in the horizontal tube installed away from the valves. I accidentally got that correct.

So we move forward slowly. We used a bar in the rear bolts of the crank shaft to gently turn over the engine. Next item may be the oil pump, to be cleaned, checked, assembled, and re-installed on the back of the block. Short term goal is to get the engine assembled. Then painted and attached to the torque tube. Man I hope I can remember how these parts go together?

Regards,
 Chris and Cheryl

Great documentation as always Chris!

I need to quit messing with plows and got to work on a 125 myself, don't hold your breath. I guess as long as I'm tinkering in the shop that keeps me happy, actual project less important.

ACinSC, folks,
It just started snowing here again. I ordered a dial indicator and base. A tool that you don't use every day but it would have helped to know when the valves were opening and or closing, as we adjusted the rocker arm clearance. We just eyeballed the valve movement or closure. We set the gap cold at .012 inch.
I may go through and check the valve clearance gap again when the dial indicator comes in.
Regards,
 Chris and Cheryl

Allis folks,
Friend John came over and he helps me get a little done each day on the CA project. We cleaned up the oil pump parts and assembled it and mounted it on the back of the block.
the gasket for the oil pump did not fit well. An Agco made in USA item but its not really close. Had to open two of the small holes in the gasket to allow screws to enter.

John cleaned up the oil filter die casting. i sanded the base flat. and we mounted it and the gasket to the block.

Trying to decide how much to put together prior to prime and paint?

Regards,
 Chris and Cheryl

Hudco,
 Folks,
Sounds like most of my projects too.
After thinking on the oil pump. I need some feedback.
- So the gasket is paper thin. I could try to carve out a new gasket?
- I added a thin coating of sealer on the top and bottom of the gasket. After thinking ..... maybe not the correct thing to do? Would the sealer increase the gap between the end plate and the rotating vanes and decrease the oil pressure?
Open to ideas. Just second guessing myself. And don't really want to take this apart after the tractor is together.
Regards,
 Chris and Cheryl
