Can anyone tell me the differences between these two engines? Is there any parts interchangeability between the two engines?

Ted, I wish I knew. I do remember having a person come to our parts department in my father's dealership and state he needed a water pump. I looked it up for him and I do not think it was what he wanted. Come to find out that he was looking for a part for a Leroi engine. Take good care. Good Luck! Bill Long

If I remember right, combustion chamber is in the head on the LeRoy, connecting rods are longer too.

I rebuilt the Leroi D226 in my air compressor (number 4 rod bearing spun), the crank has extra weight on it and the rod caps for the crank are at an angle where the 45 rods are square to the rod. I used a 45 crank and rods. The Leroi engine had 4" flat top pistons. So I used a 4 1/8" overbore flat top WD sleeve and piston set. You must use the spark plugs for a Leroi D226 engine though since they are a little shorter and the standard 45 plugs will hit the pistons. In the end if you are just doing a simple overhaul, you can order the WD overhaul kit and everything should work. I never compared the journals on the cranks to see if they are the same size on the rods (mains are the same), but the cam bearings and all the other parts worked on the engine, had one issue with the oil hole on the center cam bearing not lining up to send oil to the rocker shaft and had to drill an oil hole for it to lube the rockers.

Combustion chamber in head, longer canted rods, slightly different external castings and parts like water pump, timing cover, etc. Beyond that, not sure on specifics.

Thanks everyone, I knew there were some differences, but they are twins to the Allis engine, so I wondered what the difference were.

I never heard a simple explanation as to whether the Leroi engines were built by Allis; or were the Allis engines built by Leroi? Or perhaps were they designed by the same outfit?
