Today, I bought what I beleive to be an early model Roto-Baler from an abandoned nearby farm. While dealing over the phone with the guy, he said to look around the rest of the farm because there would be several AC pieces and parts lying around that I could also take.
I came across an All Crop combine. I believe it was possibly a 60 or perhaps even earlier. It had been taken apart and was in pieces. But all the parts appeared to be lying in the area, except for the axle, which I later found underneath a hay wagon a little ways away. This combine did not have a reel or sickle on it. Instead it had some sort of pick-up head for swaths on it, something I have not seen on an AC combine.
My questions are:
-Did AC have an option for a pick-up head on the All Crop Combines, or was this some sort of modification?
-The combine had a straw spreader on it, was this an option or a modification?
-Where would I look for a stamp or serial number on this machine to figure out exacty what it is?
-Should I bring this thing home, or let it stay there?
Like I said, for the most part, most of it looks to be there, but there would be alot of assembly required. They removed the drawbar and the bin to get the axle off as far as I can tell. The PTO shaft is M.I.A. And the belts and chains are gone from the pick-up and feeder.
I can likely get it for next to nothing. Just debating if it is worth my time or not. Restoring would be a major endeavor, but it could be a donor for lots of parts for a different combine project.
I'll try to post some pics of the Roto-Baler if I get time. That thing is totally complete, as far as I can tell, just needs some TLC. Been sitting inside of a barn that is now falling down around it for 40 years.........................
