It is nice looking and I'm sure it's rare but I don't think it's old.  Even if it was an old sign, $8K is a tad bit out in left field.

Seems that people are getting good at making new signs to resemble the old ones , which I have no problem with ; have been noticing some high dollar Ebay deals going lately on - new, old signs -   I dont believe this one was ever produced for AC

Since the neon signs like this are being reproduced does that mean that the big rectangular lighted dealer signs could be reproduced. I can't come close to affording one but am just curious.

think i'd rather put that money into saving old iron than spending it on a sign. You can't ride a sign!

I think it's been a number of years ago, but I believe Larry Karg had some of the older diamond made. I remember them being expensive then too.

Boys I will go out on a limb here and say that sign is a repoduction of an old sign. It reminds me of all the fake tin signs you see at flea markets. Beware of fakes. If it is real prove it!

Larry Karg did have some reproduction faces made. As i remember they were the 4' sq diamond faces. As a sign dealer I can tell you that his price was reasonable for what he was offering.

When I first looked at this sign a warning when off in my mind. The A-C logo is the style that came out in 1949 and I think neon signs were well on the way out by then. Any originial neon sign that I've seen if it had the logo it was the earlier style that included the word Milwaukee. I see this mistake regularily where the logo style does not match the tractor year. I vote for this being a reproduction.

Calvin, Why do you say that neon was on it's way out by then (1949). Neon is alive and doing well yet today. I have installed neon signs last year and this year, had one repaired this year and have bids out to install some as this is typed. While some other style signs have replaced what could have been done with neon, it does not mean that neon is dead. It is hard to replace what neon will do. Some of the new LED lighting is coming close and is probably the biggest threat to neon. A good sign is a quality investment in your business and is a first look for many people of your business.  I will admit the cost of some signage is out of reach for a hobby collector but the value is driven by the very collectors who want them. I can't see the detail in the neon sign shown to offer an opinion on it's status.

I like the signs almost as much as tractors. I am however, seeing more and more people destroying good, old signs, just to make a buck. What is common now, is taking a two - sided neon sign and splitting it, to make 2 one sided signs. This completely destroys the original. I am also seeing them taking old porcelain and adding neon to them. If this ebay sign isn't a total reproduction, this is what they may have done to an original porcelain sign. They started doing it to the old car porcelains, years ago. You take an origianl $1500 porcelain sign, add $1000 worth of neon, and try to ask big money. It was working here a few years ago, when people thought they had money, but not so much now.

Ron you are correct about Neon. I see it everywhere. What I ment to say is that I don't think there were many if any A-C neon signs after the fortys. With the logo change in 1949 came the big blue lighted diamond dealer signs. I'm not a sign expert but my gut tells me that the eBay sign is a repop.
