 Topic: AC Model C tractor shifter lever

Working on a Frankenstein Model B/C tractor. Rear half is a C by serial number. My shifter lever rotates 360 degrees in its base. I can’t find anything in operators, service, or parts manual that reference this. I’m guessing that something is wrong as it’s a knuckebuster From the movement. I took out the shifter control plate/mechanism and the Shift lever. Gears look good. Forks show very minor wear if any. There is a little wear on The metal sidebar where the shifter lever end cradles in the mechanism. I don’t see any wear on the lever. What can I do to fix this if anything?

normally the BALL on the end gets some wear and causes a little SLOP Which can cause a bind... Also look at the shift lever / plate / slide area... See that the detent balls are not worn out, or detent slots deformed.. Normally the shift forks are OK...
shift lever does rotate 360 degrees.. just part of the design..

Actual pictures of my shift controls. You can see a little wear on the metal frame but not bad. The shift lever has a slight bend, thinking it should be straight? Last photo is what matters. You can see the shift lever hits the electric box and then some because it swivels all the way around. I do need to do something about that. I have a new ring and snap ring for the shifter but haven’t installed it yet until I can reduce the forward throw on the lever. Pictures to follow. Any ideas appreciated.

The lever looks like it is bent in the last 3-4 inches.. Besides hitting the BOX, it might be hitting the trans CASE, or binding in the shift bars, due to the BEND.. I would definitely try to straighten it as best you can.. If not, get a new lever ....
You can probably straighten with a press or just a 5 pound hammer. If you have a torch or propane, you might heat the area first to make it bend easier.. I will bet this is 90% of your problem.
I would agree with you.. The shift rods / bars / inside .. all look pretty good. have seen a lot worse.
