My C has started to put out what looks like steam or smoke from the right side of bell housing under load, and occasionally when not under load. There's no water in the oil, and it loses only a little coolant from time to time. She loses oil but that's from the rear main. Last, she doesn't have quite the power she used to but I only notice because I have a steep hill I mow and she used to just barely make it to the top in 2nd and now she can't quite make it, close but not quite. She doesn't smoke from the exhaust.

Maybe engine oil from the rear main seal leak is making it's way to the clutch plate?
This could cause clutch slippage and the resulting smoke.

Can't make it to the top of the hill ??? Like it quits moving while the engine is still revved up ????????????    or it stalls/kills the engine?????

When you lose power, is the engine bogging down, or is it rather that the engine is up to speed and the ground speed and pto slow down? I would guess at a slipping clutch. Either worn out/out of adjustment and the smoke is the lining burning off while it slips, or else the oil out of the rear main seal has found its way onto the clutch lining and is burning off as it slips. Either would cause you to lose power/traction on a hill. Is there a strong smell associated with the smoke?
