I was reading the shop manual the other day and it appears that to replace the two oil seals in the rear of the 6080 transmission you need to separate the transmission from the engine. An AGCO dealer told me I could repair the oli leaks by removing the rear end assembly from the transmission, but the shafts look like they come out toward the front of the transmission not rear. Any help would be appreciated....thanks

I would imagine you can dig out the old seals and install the new ones without removing the shafts.

I looked/studied the transmission and rear end diagrams and instructions in my shop manual again and came away somewhat confused. Are there 3 oil seals to consider or just one on the pinion shaft connecting the transmission? The parking brake assembly appears to be in the rear end and located on the pinion shaft. One of my hired hands drove the tractor with the parking brake on and essentailly fired it. I suspect the seal just gave out from the overheating of the shaft...comments??? Should the bearing and bearing race be replaced also?? The tractor seems to have a howl in 4th gear, regardless of range... In any event the rear end and possibly the transmission have to come off.. need to discuss with an AC expert mechanic who has done this repair before...thanks

It appears to leak through the oil seals in the back of the tranny into the rear end/hydraulic system. In fact, oil leaks out of the tranny into the rear end even when the oil level in the rear is higher than the transmission. I don't know whether it is pushing it out or the rear end is pulling it out. Have you modified the check ball vent on top of the rear end assembly..below the floor or platform??? Thanks
