I have my 7060 in the shop having a few things fixed. I got the bad news today that the a/c compressor is leaking coolant. I would like to delay the repair until the fall. If I keep the system charged, do I stand any chance of doing further damage? I'll run it 100 hours or so this year. When I bought the tractor last year the a/c was pretty cold and it took most of last season to loose it's cooling output. Thanks for any info.

About the only thing that could happen is the leak gets worse and you lose your coolant

Depends. I take it they say it has a refrigerant leak, probably around the shaft seal? Does it have grease buildup around the pulley? The problem with leaks is depending on where, how bad, and how long it has been leaking, you loose compressor oil that circulates with the system. Loose enough oil and the compressor shreds it's self. Have you switched it to R134? There are "oil charge" cans available. If you plan to charge it your self, I'd add at least one oil charge, probably two. If I remember correctly, the 7060 used the Fridgidaire A6 compressor which is one of the easiest compressors to change a shaft seal on if you have the tools.

Thanks everyone for all the info. It does have R134 in it and the refridgerant is what is leaking. I will watch for oil to be leaking until the compressor is replaced, I will have to have it done because it is beyond my capabilities.

If you keep the A/C turned off, the clutch will not allow the compressor to rotate, so there should be no damage.

You won't see a leak dripping any large amount. What you're looking for is a buildup of grease/dirt around the pulley/clutch plate. If there's a big build up there, I'd add oil to it. You can buy "oil charge" cans that have 2 oz of oil and about the same amount of R134. You use a low side charging hose to put it in. It's pretty simple to do, just have to follow the directions and don't forget to purge the air from the hose. Too much oil is far better than not enough.
