 Topic: A/C HD16DP charging generator source?

Anyone know if a 1966 A/C HD16DP charging generator... even used... can be had? The one on mine has never worked since I have had it and I am just getting around to addressing it. Also... if the specs... i.e. output current and voltage is known that would be greatly appreciated. I know the system is 24 volts but I have to believe the generator output is a bit higher than that. I know there is a regulator involved as well.

I converted a couple of Caterpillar bulldozers to the bigger Delco 24V alternators, it was a fairly easy switch, also eliminating the need for an external regulator. If I were you I would do the same on the HD16.

Currently- WD,WC,3WF's,2 D14's B. Previously- I 600,TL745,200,FL9,FR12,H3,816 LBH. Earth has no sorrow that Heaven cannot heal!

Eric is 100% right... Get rid of the generator and regulator problems and go with an alternator with internal regulator...
capacity wise, most of the generators in that era were 30 amps MAX... Unless you have a bunch of headlights on the tractor, 30 is fine... If you go with an alternator it might be 30 -35 or 60 amps... all are OK.

Something like this... you have to figure out the mount and pulley / adjustment is the biggest deal..... Make sure the SPEC says "IR" Internal Regulator... Some dont..

If the old generator has two 'mounting ears' at the bottom you may want to look over which make and model of a 24V Alt. would be the easier to adapt. There is one on Amazon that fits older A-C and Fiat-Allis machines, very reasonably priced as well. My picture posting skill failed me today or I would have put it on here

Here in Oz a common replacement is a Bosch 24 volt internal regulator. 55 amp I think. You can buy it with a mounting bracket.
I had no problem lining the belt pulley up with that mount welded to the generator bracket on an AC Forty Five grader. That was about 12 years ago so I don't remember if I had to change the belt length.
The Delco generator pulley fitted the shaft of the Bosch so the bigger section belt of the AC wasn't an issue. The Bosch doesn't use a Woodruff key so some Loctite was needed to keep it on.

I do not have a manual for that exact tractor but general principles will apply.
A 24 Volt system will require 28 Volts to adequately charge the batteries, the amperage on the original generator will be in the 20-30 amp range, likely closer to 20.
These machines were intended to be started and ran for extended periods of time, the batteries thus have ample time to charge even at the seemingly low amperage ratings.
A 24 volt one-wire alternator with 30+ amps would be the simplest solution.

I did a search and found a parts book PDF for a HD-16 DC that shows a Delco generator part number as 1105997.
I then found a specification chart that shows the specs for this generator.
@1800 Generator RPM: Cold output: 15 Amps 28.5 Volts Field Current: 0.94-1.02 Amps @24 Volts
