About 2 weeks ago I started a thread asking for help troubleshooting the PS on my 8070. DR Allis responded with some good ideas but now I can not seem to find the thread to follow up with some pressure tests done and some things I have learned. Am I looking in the wrong section or something. I usually do better with mechanical things than a computer but I am starting to wonder if I am in over my head on both! Thanks for your help DR Allis.

Thanks for your help Dr Allis. I was wondering where you were getting the pressure readings for the inching valve from. Is it the 1/4" plug just below the inching spool? I am not showing the 20% clutch pedal depression at full pressure. Pressure drops right away. So am I on the right track by setting clutch linkage and inching spool to try and get the pressure drops as shown in the service manual? 200 psi through 20% of pedal depression, then pressure drops to 100 psi rapidly, then between 20% and 70% the pressure should drop off gradually and smooth to 0 psi.

The lower front test port is "inching" pressure. Needs to be 210 to 230 psi at full throttle and I would expect it to be in that general range at 1500 RPM or so. This is with the inching pedal clear up and the inching spool pushed almost clear in the bore, like .020" or .030" from bottomed out. This can be checked with a feeler gauge between the lever and spool. Until this pressure is right, nothing else can work right. If you need to shim up the pressure regulator spool, shoot for the 230 number.

Thanks so much for your suggestions Dr Allis. You were right on with your questions about the inching valve and the clutch pedal not moving far enough. I went through the clutch setup procedure a couple of times until I got the clutch pedal movement correct(it was not moving up or down far enough), which then allowed the inching spool to move through it's range, and now the pressure in the inching spool and brake test ports works just like the manual says. With everything that far out of adjustment I could not figure out where to start. These forums and the good people on them are amazing!! Thanks again.

I also found the annoying rattle that has been under the dash. It was the rod that pulls the transmission brake spring. That rod goes through a steel bracket and when the clutch is up or engaged that rod is loose and just rattles around in the hole in the bracket. It looks like it should have a grommet in the hole but it did not. I made a little bracket from a 2" piece of 1x1/8" flat bar with a hole drilled in each end. I drilled a hole 3 sizes bigger than the 3/8 rod in one end and a 1/4" hole in the other to bolt my bracket to the tractor bracket. I cut a piece of 1/2" emt conduit about 3/4" long and fit a 3/4" piece of rubber hose into it the same 3/4" long. The rubber hose just slides on the 3/8" rod from the tractor. I tack welded a 7/16" flat washer to the top end of the conduit to cage the rubber hose and then carefully tacked the whole assembly with the hose inside, to the flat bar, centered on the hole drilled. I just did a small tack and then cooled the whole bracket in water each time. It was a little tricky getting it all mounted but it seems to hold that 3/8" rod perfectly still and the trans brake works just as it should, with no rattle!
