I bought a 616 a while back with a bad engine (actually parts of a bad engine, many parts missing).

When I looked it up, it says they have a CCKA engine. I have found a CCKM engine for sale. What are the differences in the two? Are the dimensions the same, including crankshaft (pulley) size?

Is there any reason to stay away from the CCKM engine?

My only experience with an Onan was with a John Deere 616 that my wife inherited from an uncle. I couldn't keep coils in it. It would start running on one cylinder and the only way to get it to run on both cylinders was to change ($$$) the coil.

WFOwner:  CCKM - M was a designation for Military.  As I understand it the CCK and CCKM were used by the miltary for gensets and as a portable power source.

Does anyone know if the specs (crankshaft size) are the same?

Curt,
I have a spare CCKB long block if that will help ya. $100. bucks if ya want it. Has a flywheel and pulley on it also. Yeah, the 616 came with the CCKA engine. 620 & 720's came with the CCKB engine. This spare engine is missing the intake and Carb and some sheetmetal, but I think if your KA has an intake and carb, I'm pretty sure they interchange  on the KB engine.

Thanks Steve, but all the engine that was with the tractor had was the block, crankshaft, pistons and two valves. The heads, flywheel, manifolds, carburetor, starter, shrouds and a lot of other stuff is missing.

I thought of transplanting a Honda a friend has, but the Honda is pretty tired.

I saw a CCKM on Facebook Marketplace, so I am thinking of taking a chance on it, but I am curious if it is going to be a big job to change it.

Hmmmm..... not familiar with the Military version. I'm not sure if there's any difference or not. Didn't small engine warehouse have a Vanguard kit for the 616-720? I remember a couple of the fellers on here have em' in their Tractors and work quite well....
