Maybe it's because of my advanced age but I've had a hard time getting used to 4 door pickups. Always have had a regular cab long box for the farm vehicle. Have an oversized crossover toolbox plus L-shaped fuel transfer tank in the bed so that puts the gooseneck ball only several inches back of those items with about 4 and a half feet of box space left behind that. Have used an extended cab for pulling our campers for some time, first a long bed and now a short bed. Long bed rode nice but could be difficult to fit in some parking spaces. Around here in our small town the dealers keep one regular cab long bed in stock to about twenty 4 door short box vehicles.

I have a '13 Ford Super Crew with the 5.5 short box and wouldn't have anything else, yes it's a small box but just enough for what I haul. And having the big back seat is nice when you do have passengers or want to fold up the seat and put something inside to stay clean/dry/warm vs. in the box. I would venture to say I bought a pickup more for the towing capability than hauling, and I also don't have a different vehicle for each purpose, it's all about what works best for you.

I was reading an article today about Jeep introducing their new Gladiator pickup in 2019.  Only picture was of a 4 door.  Basically it's a Wrangler with a longer wheelbase and is 30" longer body.  Don't know if it will have a two door version or not.
