My math says 4 x 14's takes 56 HP to pull and 4 x 16's takes 64 HP. That also translates into a minimum weight of 5600 lb and 6400 lbs. This has been a formula I have used for years. Your results may vary with different soil types and the lay of the land.

Wouldn’t it be cheaper, by the time it’s all said and done, to just buy a 4x16 plow? They sure don’t bring much at auctions these days. |

I tried to follow the science, but it was not there. I then followed the money, and that’s where I found the science.

If freight is a problem and time is not you might get a shipper to combine a load headed in your direction so everybody pays less. I did that one time. Luke in Wisconsin had a 7 bottom 3000 plow he had painted and put new tires on. It looked brand new. I had fantasized about one of those since i was a boy. I called him and asked if i paid him for it could he keep it until i could get it picked up. He said yes. I called a shipper i knew that worked the midwest a lot and he said let him work out a load and it wont cost that much. I think it was about a fourth of what it would have cost. May help may not your results wil varry
