I have Stihl saws. Use Stihl label oil as it is convenient to purchase when getting parts and bottle size is correct for the gas container. Whether it really matters is subject debate but I remember a certain John Deere snowmobile that only ran well on Deere oil.

Saw a guy use bar oil once, said he only had 10 or so cuts to make. He got em cut but I never heard if the saw lasted any length of time afterwards.
Polymuric valance viscosity of the quasionic peptide oil ohm I guess. I use any chainsaw 2 stroke oil as McCulloch is no longer. Edited by chaskaduo - 08 Oct 2019 at 2:44pm |

My reason for asking is that the long time saw shop that’s been here for 3 generations closed this summer. They were a pro Stihl dealer and sold Stihl oil. Now it’s Ace hardware Napa or Walmart . There is a TSC 25 miles away. I have a 12 pack of Stihl oil just wondering what the future holds?

I use stihl or echo. Go to a lot of yard sales, too. If I spot a good name brand oil, in sealed packs, I'll buy it, too. Main thing I do is to mix the oil with coleman camping gas(Naptha). I won't touch the ethanol stuff, it just eats up fuel parts!

20w can be used for both chain and gas. That's what you are buying with "Maybe" some additives. I've used it for years and never had any problems. If I run across anything at auctions for the right price I'll pick it up and use it. Oh, I also use ethanol mixed gas! Never a problem with it either.

Well,,,Thad,,,when you get ready to start a thread on oil for 2 stroke outboards,,,,I'll be first in line,,,and welcome ole JohnKC to chime as he worked on them boat engines for many years,, ![]() For many years I would always buy the two stroke oil of whatever brand was on the shelf at the gas station as we headed out to the lake. Then when Walmart opened I started using their brand by the gallon cause I got tired of running out and the gas station also out ,,,,,,I would keep a pre-mixed gallon in the pontoon storage at all times. Never had an issue with any of the boats I had.,,,, ![]() Also would use this pre-mix when I run out of chain saw mix,,,,,

Marine 2stroke and air cooled 2 stroke oil are 2 different animals. Put marine stuff in air cooled stuff, and you will have problems with ash gumming up the works...

I used JD 30 weight torque-guard for the gas mixture @ 50-1 for most of the 35 yrs. in the Echo and it still runs well.
Echo EV650, for 35 yrs. and still works good. It sawed a lot of wood and was backer over by my D17(dumb tractor), took 1 part for handle mount to repair.

The TSC oil in the small bottle multi-packs. It's synthetic, and mixes around 40:1 when you use one bottle per gallon. Smells good too. Low/no smoke.

I order the sthil brand 50:1 stuff from the internet. Have other stuff for the 32:1 and 40:1 saws that I use. Also NEVER use alki gas in 2-strokes. --I saw a guy destroy his saws with that crap.

when everyone in the 70's and 80's ran their snowmobiles, we all choose Conoco 2-cycle oil as it would never foul the plugs like other oils did. think it was called "scat" oil.

I believe in staying with the what you have been using, unless there is an operational issue that changing the mix will solve. You say you have a 12 pack of Stihl oil. How long do expect that will last? Before it is gone isn't it likely you will be going by another Stihl dealer and could pick some more up? As ac fleet posted, you can order on it line; eBay, Amazon and many other places advertise it, and it will be delivered to you.
