Good morning all!!
New member and needing some hydraulic help on my early 70s 190. I blew the rubber hose running from the pump to the cooler. By the time I knew all this had happened I lost steering and rear hydraulics. I replaced hose. The fill cap on right side of floor shifter was showing nothing on the stick but only took 4 gallons to refill. I still don't have steering or rears. I have a ton of air trapped all in the system and cracked a hose to bleed off. Ran it for an hour and still no luck. Im confused because I thought the fill cap on the right was for transmission? and the fill on the left was steering and rear hydraulics. Can someone, anyone please help me with this.

Dipstick on the LEFT is for all hydraulics. I sure hope running it for an hour hasn't ruined the hydraulic pump.

me too!!!! I ran it after filling the tank. If you don't run it how would you know you didn't have a problem or what would the procedure be after replacing the hose? Next thing Im confused about is you say the tank on the left is all hydraulics...That tank was still at a descent level even after I had blown the hose and dumped a bunch of fluid. Didn't even have to add any but the tank on right was half empty. If the tank on the left is all hydraulics but the level was still good, where did my hydraulics go after replacing the hose. They worked fine until then.

With the tractor on level ground and shut off for 5 minutes, remove the LEFT threaded dipstick and wipe it clean.....recheck the hydraulic oil level. You have to have lost some oil from the hydraulics, and that is where it is to be refilled. The pump may have lost its prime after all this, and will need the engine revved up more than an idle to maybe re-prime. Leaving it run for more than a minute or two not working wouldn't be my advice.

Thanks Dr Allis, that is why I was getting confused on the fill holes. I have a shop manual and owners manual and would have expected the left side to be really low not the right. Stranger things have happened so wondering if the pump went out at same time I blew the hose. Don't see it but you never know. Thanks for the help and insight as well!!!!

One thing I will add, is that after thinking I had air in the lines I cracked the replaced line at the cooler and let engine run a bit with fluid sputtering along with air...there is pressure coming from the pump but not very much. Enough to run fluid but never enough pressure to start spraying all over the place.

On the top rear of the pump there is a hex plug that takes a 7/8" wrench. Remove the plug and slowly pour hydraulic oil down the hole. Maybe you can get a 1/2 quart down in the hole. Quickly reinstall the plug and fire up the engine and rev it up half throttle or more and see if it won't prime.....no more than 3o seconds.

Thank!!!!! I will try that on my day off sunday. Im up for any suggestions on this thing. I got it running after new rings, head work and injection pump rebuild. It sat in the weather for 13 years without exhaust pipe covered up. Engine was locked smooth up. Did all this while in the pasture. Been using it for last 10 years with this being my only issue. Really want to keep it going.

What grade oil should the left tank hold? 821 equivelant or what would you recommend?
