Anyone on here have any experience disassembling the power steering hydraulic cylinder on an AC 185? There does not appear to be a cap that screws off nor do I see any snap rings. Someone on this forum will know the secret, they always do. |

Worked like a charm! You guys always know the answer. The pressed in outer seal around the shaft was a bear to get out! Installing seal kit 70255712-5 from DJS Tractor.

Before installing piston back into the barrel, wrap the new teflon piston seal with two wraps of paper and place a radiator hose clamp around the teflon seal and compress it. I'd wait overnite if it was mine and remove the clamp, grease/oil lightly and stick it slowly into the barrel. If you don't do this, chances are pretty good you will cut the new piston seal.

Thanks for the advice on that. When I took the piston off the tractor the spherical swivel joints on either end fell out in my hand and some of the joint housing cracked off. Unfortunately, the only replacement with the correct dimensions I've found so far are from A&W Tractor Part Number: 244019V $136 each!!
If anyone knows of another source please let me know. They seem to be .3/4" ID and 1 5/8" OD. |
