Why is the field terminal always HOT even when the wire is disconnected and ignition off killing the batteries over nite? 1100887 55A delco. Thanks Dave

the HOT WIRE to the battery is probably always hot.... You might have a small leak internal that goes to ground... that could keep the F terminal warm..
Disconnect the battery cable terminal should work...

you have an external voltage regulator... are you thinking the contact INSIDE the voltage regulator is STUCK closed and causing a draw when you connect the Field wire ?
Maybe the REGULATOR and not the Alternator ?

Could be a shorted diode in the alternator or contact in regulator welded to hot post. or connectors put on wrong terminals... 55 amp alternator means that tractor has a different alternator put on. Original was 32 amp alternator. Is that 1100887 alternator still the old Delcotron style? no regulator inside it...? |
