Drove my WD on tractor ride Sat. first 25 mile ok, stopped for lunch, when we left again it wanted to foam out the radiator overflow. Not hot or anything, thinking head gasket or head crack, any opinions before I take it apart? We did do some long down hills where it ran kind of free, had to use brakes to keep it back, could that contribute to a problem? Thanks

I would think head gasket. A compression and leak down test would confirm. At least heads are easy on the old girls.

Dave you need to first find out if the slop is in the wheel bearings or in the spindle. If in the spindle you can check to make sure the big nut on the bottom of spindle is tight. You can also have slop in the spindle bearing, the shaft or in keyway and you will need to dissemble it to find the cause. |

Sorry to hear that Jim, could be only leaking compression into water and not water (antifreeze) into combustion chamber yet. That said I think I would take spark plugs out and see if you have one that is real clean. Maybe also fill radiator up to the neck and start engine and see if you have bubbles, if so that would not be good. Keep us posted, Mark

Will not get to work on it for a little while, ran it yesterday for 5 min, took rad cap off and it bubbled out a foam, don't think any anti freeze into oil, will let everyone know when I get a little more time. thanks

The fact it ran free downhill is kind of suspicious on its own, with decent compression the engine should be able to hold the tractor back without brakes. Gotta be head gasket leaking compression.
