I got a notice in the mail not root-rot any sewer line going from a home to a sewer main.
It seams that there are a lot of utilities are being horizontal, and may go right threw sewer lines. If a natural gas line is threw the sewer line you are having problems with a Roto-Roter will break that gas line.
Call Miss Dig 811.
What I would like to know is. Who pays to fix the problem of a unity going threw a sewer line?

I would imagine that the party involved that has the least amount of money to fight it will be liable. Darrel

I repaired lots of sewer lines that utility companies damage as they install thier own lines
Usually a sewer gets bored through . All other utility lines can be located from above ground . Sewer line has to have a device sent through it in order to accurately locate it. Utility companies figure it is cheaper to fix a few instead of locating them all . Utility company is liable for damaging sewer . 32 years ago when I started in this business we would uncover damaged pipe, call the utility that caused damage . A rep would come out ,verify and give my boss an address to send the bill . Somewhere along the line it changed to where the rep would deny deny , deny . Customer would have to get a lawyer and then when the utility company figured they were serious they would pay for it
Never seen where it was obvious and a utility company didn't pay for it.

My first boss I worked for hit a plastic gas line that had been bored through the customers sewer while running an electric eel . Sewer was backed up and he smelled gas and saw bubbles coming up out of the drains . He got every one out of the house . Fire dept , police , utility companies all got involved . Boss was on the 10 oclock news getting all kinds of free publicity . Gas company paid for the whole thing .
What are you supposed to do Dusty ? Just don't flush !!!

Utility set a new electric pole on a rental property I own and put it right through the tile sewer line. There were even broken pieces of tile around the hole they bored and a sink hole had formed around the pole. Didn't bother me much though because the stupid new tenants drove a vehicle right over the PVC clean out a couple weeks before and the were without a working toilet again. Electric company hired a contractor to repair it on a Saturday. Darn.

I had a local phone company go thru my sewer line putting in a buries cable. I contacted them and they told me they weren't liable. wasn't until I took a chunk of the sewer line into their office and laid it on the phone company's owners desk that they would agree to fix my sewer line. really helped that some of the reminates of the sewer was oozing out of the pipe. they did a super job fixing it!
