Hello everyone. Im new to the old equipment restorations. I just recieved a HD7 and im trying to find some parts to get it moving again. It runs great and the trans goes through the gears good. The old owner took the steering clutches out of it and lost some parts. Im having a hard time finding anyone with HD7 parts. I ordered the parts manual off ebay this week so I know the right terminology for each part is. Can anyone give me some insight or atleast tell me if im on a sinking ship or not. Thanks

Yes the yard you talk of is just outside of Boise Idaho. He said that he only has HD5s and HD6s :( Im not into this dozer to much as far as cost. Do you think its worth putting back together if I can find parts Coke?

If there is life left in the undercarriage - being track - sprockets - rollers still have life - then yes .
Can try Eau Claire WI  - Thill Track and Tractor - see if they have a lead on anything .
Unsure of what parts interchange on the old machines of the HD7 era .
HD5 and HD6 share many of the same parts from engine back and the running gear, in fact those machines share clutch pack parts with HD11 machines.

The 71 series engine parts are the easy part as they are still made and used . HD7 kind of stood by itself. I looked at one back in the 70's but passed and bought a D6-9U Cat - worst investment I ever made - money pit, should have bought the HD7.

You might want to consider a parts tractor as well. They are around, parked, many due to a bad engine or simply something the owner did not have the money to fix.

I have been on the hunt for a parts dozer. There is two abandoned gold mines in the hills around here that my friends have telling about. They say that there is a couple dozers up their. Only problem ther is no road up to the mines. So no real way to get them out whole. But there are a lot of ranches and farms in the area as well. Thank you guys for all of your help. I'm going to call Zimmerman when I get to work this morning too. This weekend I'm going to try and get the dozer in my shop this weekend and ill post some more pictures.

Seeing post about the K jogged my memory. From the transmission back the HD7 with a 3-71 has more in common with the K than with the newer tractors. The steering clutch from a M may also have parts in common, but I am only guessing.

Thanks Ray. Have been talking to a guy from Fresno tractor and he is saying the same thing as you. He recommended I buy the parts manual and cross check the numbers with other machines

Hi, Ray is right that K crawler  transmission and clutch parts could serve as replacements so your search might be broadend by searching for a K.  If you need a Factory service manual covering HD 7  10 & 14tractors & engines I have a factory one . Good clean manual. $35 00 plus shipping.

Tractor parts list HD7 clutch parts and books on his site
Also i am led to believe that the first 1000 HD7 shared the same track frame and rear end as the K but not 100% on this.
