Hello,

I have been making more progress on the 160 that we have in the shop. Since my last update I have removed the three pistons and the cylinder sleeves.

Now with the crankshaft in the open it looks like the surface is worn on the first and third cylinder. The bearing surfaces also show wear and discoloration.

I measured the crank and it is still within original spec with a diameter of 2.2487, I'm assuming my best course of action is to have the crank ground and order oversize bearing surfaces with my rebuild kit.

What is the going rate for crank grinding. Asking because I can buy a rebuild kit with a new crank for about $150 more than the basic kit without and was considering going this route depending on cost.

Here is a picture of the crank:

If that is the worst journal, I'd try a simple polish first, then just check to see if standard bearings  can still be used.  Otherwise a heavy polish job and .002 under bearings may work if they are available.

Most problems can be solved with the proper application of high explosives.

for a 150 more i would get the crank a machine shop will charge you close to that just to pollish it at least up here in NY.

Do you have a recommendation for how to polish it? I'm willing to spend a little time messing with it if it saves me from needing to get the crank ground or replaced.

That was my thought, figured I would check though.

I would take it to a machine shop and get them to quote me a price .  Cranks can be turned to correct problems for more reasons than a undersized journal . jmho
