I recently brought my dad's old AC 917 Hydro back to TN. It has a 42" mower deck and a rototiller. The tractor hasn't ran since 2015 but was always stored in a clean dry environment. I took it to a small engine repair person in the hopes of getting it running again. I believe my dad purchased this in 1979 or the very early 80's. It has a Briggs and Stratton 18hp horizontal engine, industrial commercial grade, cast iron bore. If memory serves me, it originally had a twin cylinder engine but I remember my dad taking it back to where he bought it because there were problems with it and I'm pretty sure they replaced it with this Briggs. I don't have any of the paperwork for this tractor like the owners manual, parts list, etc. I bought a new battery for it and the mechanic says the engine turns over but it needs a new ignition coil and likely a voltage regulator. That's what we know is wrong now, I'm sure there are other things that will need to be replaced just due to age and wear. My question for you experts out there is, do you know where I might find a manual for this thing and any other materials relating to parts. Any help of course is greatly appreciated. Thanks

Welcome to the forum. Just remember if you get an original allis parts book the part numbers listed won’t help you. You need simplicity part numbers. And if not original engine the parts book won’t help with those parts. If engine has tag with serial number and spec number, you can look some up that way.
Good luck

Simplicity is the route to follow for original parts. As mentioned the engine tag is what you will need if engine parts are required no matter the brand.

I had a couple of 916H tractors and always liked them as a heavy built unit. Newer tractors with foot operated direction changes were nicer and easier, but the times have changed. The 900 series were right to the point of needing power steering being that heavy on the steer axle although the 917, and 918 were lighter citing the aluminum cylinder block(s).

I have a 917H and it came from the factory with a Kohlor Twin 17 series II. Engine swaps are common and as said above go by the engine tag for parts not the tractor itself.

917 here with an 18 in it. its a beastly thing! came with 5 attachments but I dont use it anymore. too many sunstars with power steering got in the way! lol! Tillin is done by IH 504 and cultivating by Horse tillers. Did just get a Simp. front ender tiller, also have a Simp. 7016 rear ender that I use a lot.
