I has my IB about ready for final painting and ran it for a while and it developed an oil leak (front crankshaft seal) one drop every 2 seconds. Professional rebuilder did not use a speedy sleeve to cover the grooves. Also can't get it in time, close but not correct so I will take front gear cover to see if timing marks on gears line up. UGH Lots of chipped paint as taking off the front gear cover is a big job on an IB.

My dad's first new car a 1954 Ford with the new I-block 6 developed a leak on the front crankshaft seal. Mostly from wearing a groove in the crankshaft. We fixed it with a new seal and carefully didn't push the seal all the way into its mount so the seal edge was on unworn crankshaft. Worked perfectly for the rest of the time that he and I drove that car. Past 110K miles.

man I feel your pain...
I'd be tempted to send the repair bill to the 'pro', along with pictures of what he did or didn't in this case.
But like you I'd really just start grabbing wrenches and mumble a lot......

Ted,
Oil leaks are a pain. Especially after having someone rework the engine for you.
On one of the WD's I did put a speedy sleeve on over the grooves. I think I still have a small oil leak in that area. Might be around the pan. If you get frustrated you can take a ride over and we can chat.
Looking forward to pictures, even as it sets now!
