Now that is interesting.

He mentioned water heater and that rang my bell. I bought a Sears Endura water heater with a lifetime warranty against leaking. 17 years later it leaked. Called Sears up and they honored the warranty and provided me a new water heater but the new heater had a 12 year warranty. 7 years later it leaked. Called them up and they honored the warranty.

So the moral of this is Sears went under because they actually honored their warranties.๐Ÿ˜†๐Ÿ˜†๐Ÿ˜†๐Ÿ˜†๐Ÿ˜†

My water heater had sticker that said 10 year full replacement warrenty -labor included. Started leaking shortly after 5. New water heater has the same sticker but the new one doesn't have 10 years, only 5 as the warrenty goes back to the original water heater and the free labor was used on this replacment, the next replacment (if needed) will cost us to put it in.

Ah yes the battery warrenty when the replacement unit costs more now and when you bought it it was a special so the new battery will cost you as much as you paid for the first one to replace it - and then warrenty on new battery is only for length left on the old battery - and save your reciepts as without them - no deal.
Same with tires that have road hazard - to replace a tire with mount, balance, disposal and new unit will cost more than you paid in the first place -
Last time a tire dealer tried that I just went to a different place and bought 2 new tires for the same price they wanted to warrant the one that failed .

In the early 80's the original battery in my 1972 Ford Courier went bad, I bought a J.C. Penny's lifetime battery and it lasted 5 or 6 years but by that time Penny's had gone out of the auto parts/repair business.  It was still warrantied by Firestone, so they did give me a new battery but it only had a 3 or 4 year warranty, which is about how long it lasted.

OK , here's a good one..
I broke a 'breaker bar' or 'Johnson bar' , whatever you call an 18" long  1/2" drive gizmo for undoing them really, really stuck nuts...
anyway, it sits here for 2-3 months and dang, I need to use it. It's some brand whose name escapes me( 66 now...) but I use Google a lot. Turns out they got bought   out by B&D ( I think..). THEy got got bought out by Proto. So I email Proto and ask if they would honout the 'lifetime warranty' of the bar even though Protot didn't make it. Well after an email confirming the 'similar' model, 2 days later a delivery truck shows up with a NEW bar !!!
I quick-like-a-bunny emailed the Proto girl and thanked her said the only problem with the bar was that it was too shiny to use !
hmm,,, might have been 'Westward'.... mind wanders.....low in iron, gave #99 on Monday.

Why do ya think every dang gadget has the date built in you donโ€™t think the warranty is programmed in thatโ€™s why so much stuff quits a week after warranty goes out it does know

Seems I have some WARDS 3/4 drive sockets - the ratchet broke way back about the time Wards was going out of business but they said buy another brand and bring the reciept in and they would reimburse me  which thay did ,
Now i have several sockets (WRIGHT brand) that I have cracked but seems no Weight tool retailers in the area now . I know some places will replace broken tools with their house brand . Fleet Farm use to handle Wright , then went to Allen , and now a different mfg as their top line .

The old Snap On and MAC tool guarantees are about done, had a ratchet strip, is likely 30 years old, took it to the S.O. dealer truck, no parts, could NOT replace the ratchet as had "Cheater" marks on the hand grip. Asked what he was speaking of on a 30 year old tool as they will have drop and bang up marks, said no dice and basically asked me to leave. Had a MAC 1/4 drive set the breaker bar square broke away at the detent ball, "Not warranty" was the response and said could buy a new one for damn near as much as I bought the entire set for 25 years ago.

Am down to buying at Lowes and HD, Kobalt 1/3 the price and as good or better guarantee.

I broke an SK 3/8 breaker bar.  Picture a spiral fracture through the drive square, elongating the detent hole.  Wouldn't replace it because they wouldn't believe me that I broke it with no cheater.  Later, broke a 1/2" SK breaker, snapped off through the hinge.  Couldn't ever find an SK seller at that time, so who knows.

Brother with dairy in upstate NY is waiting on a call directly from GM as a/c compressor went out on his GMC 3/4 dbl cab long bed 4wd gasser, one month out of factory warranty. Family always teases him as he rarely drives this truck and he advised recently that this 2014truck only has 11K miles on it (leftover on the lot that he bought in 2015). Cost him over $1200 at the dealership and just to wind him up, I told him GM will likely tell him he was not driving it enough.
Says he wants GM to justify only putting a one year warranty on the replacement GM supplied compressor.
He was not happy when I told him the replacement likely came from the local Car Quest or O'Reilly's!
Advised he called one of the heavily tv advertised extended warranty companies and the quoted prices were through the roof for coverage. He did not buy any coverage and advised the only way he could get the warranty company to stop blowing up his phone was to eventually tell them he sold the truck.
LMAO as he is known for being extremely tight fisted, but knowing him, he will likely get something out of GM.

I have sold a ton of extended warranties on commercial air conditioning and refrigeration compressors, never gave the customer a choice, it was built into the quote.  All the compressors come with a 1 year replacement warranty, no labor, I always added a 90 day labor warranty.  My supplier offered a 4yr extended warranty for about 1/4 of my cost of the compressor.  In the warranty it states they will replace the compressor up to 3 times from year 2 to year 5, the first year is on the manufacture.  Never exceeded the 3 replacement limit but we analyzed the oil to determine the cause of the failure.  Did have one time that two compressors failed within 24 hours after install, manufacture tried to deny warranty but delivered it directly to the factory in Wichita at the time, they tore it down and discovered incorrect parts inside and paid us for our trouble.
