Just curious to see if you have tapped those maple trees yet. I haven't seen you on here for a while; probably busy with all those neat projects you have going.

Yes, mdm1, seems very early here in central Ohio as well. I think tapping here could have been done a couple weeks ago.
Hope  that still apparatus doesn't take too long to construct. Suppose Ontario's spring would be a little later than ours.
We have daffodils coming up already and one of the day lillies too.

We'll see how it works out. We just do it for our own use and give some away. 10 gals is all. Have to ask though if the neighbor is making maple syrup or moonshine?

ac hunter, folks,
Thanks for checking on me. Yes we have begun the 2024 maple season. Mother nature has different thoughts and has shut us down for a while with colder weather.

We tapped early and made 30 gals of excellent Amber Rich maple syrup.

That is about 1/4 or less of a normal crop. I hope to pick up some sap tomorrow and boil it over the weekend.

We have our two big maple events in March. A Maple festival at Asbury Woods Nature center March 2 and 3. Then our 21st annual Maple Taste and Tour March 16-17.

Yes we do allow other things to get in the way too. Like the new to us 65 Comet Caliente. I am like a little kid playing with a new toy!
Also have that Allis CA to get back to work on also.

Our son Adam has been staying with us and has been a tremendous help to Cheryl and I.

Regards,
Chris and Cheryl

tadams, Folks,
That's our son Adam stoking the evaporator with beard and flip flops. Yea its hot and dangerous. Perfect!:)
Syrup season has been small runs and very warm dry weather. So I predict we may only make 70% of our normal crop. Sounds like a farmer complaining. Its not. We take what the weather brings, and the weather is changing! We keep tapping earlier in the year. We missed a couple good runs several days before we tapped. At 73 gallons of syrup. Amber and Dark syrup this year.
Cheryl has been riding along when I gather sap on the 30 mile run. She also has been spending time in the sugarhouse and the kitchen. Nice to have her near by!
Regards,
 Chris and Cheryl

Glad you're doing so well Chris, and now getting to 'play' with more toys!

The weather has sure been a real head scratcher hasn't it?  Here it is the first part of March and things are turning green here and trees are budding out!  I'm gonna make a bet right now that it'll raise Cain with my apple harvest this year..........Alas, I haven't had a good crop for about 5 years now.

Have a great one in Orange Land....

Guys,
We had a great maple season. Just did not get the sap to make our normal avg. amount. Normally around 150 gallons of finished syrup. This season we made 96 gallons. Last year we made 200 gallons. Most of the syrup is gone! We had a great open house event with about 400 folks visiting us over St Patrick's weekend.

Cheryl had some health issues this week but is back to her normal now, We are blessed!
