 Topic: Loose running dogs…………..

have plagued our neighborhood the past few days. This morning heard a couple blood curdling howls outside our front door. Investigated and saw two mixed breed mutts chasing and attacking a cat. So far the cat has survived but, bloodied and in pain, neighbor lady is caring for it. Animal control picked up one dog so far. Both have collars, but no tags. Dogs ran off when I hollered at them, but one returned to area a short while later looking the injured feline.
Can’t stand owners that allow their dogs to run.

I tried to follow the science, but it was not there. I then followed the money, and that’s where I found the science.

State of MO considers them Abandoned if No tag or Chip and allowed to run free. Those taken to pound for hold of one week then euthanized. Several owners found out too late, attempted a Suit, got the gratuitous FINES in the Mail for Uncontrolled LOOSE Animal and the bills for the vet stay/euthanizing. NO more lawsuits.

i use a 40 cal and shoot 6 ft behind their ass.... The BIG BANG and whistle makes them scoot down the road real quick... and they REMEMBER the BANG... After a few of those, they watch their tracks.

A neighbor let his dog run loose, and the dog chose to come over to my property. I warned the neighbor, who responded "Oh, we trained him to kill cats"... Okay, suit yourself. Dumb dog decided to attack my barn cat Simon.
Simon gave him five good reasons to back off, but he didn't take that advise. Simon granted him a little patience and dignity- he allowed that dog to return home with one functioning eye. That dog never crossed the road again, and good thing... Simon had 5 more reasons for him to stay away.

I don't really have a dog problem but rather coyotes at the shop. Since the exponential increase in ammunition prices I don't bother with a warning shot from a 16ga shotgun, but rather the first one counts. Can't keep mousers around because of them.
Got enough of them at times they tend to offer "self cleaning" action as the carcass is gone in the overnight hours too.

Yeah, coyotes are a problem here. I'll put a dead animal out in a good spot, and when they're lined up right, send something through three or four of 'em at a time.

That's production right there.
They are plentiful at times around here, but thin down quickly once their presence is realized.

I have ZERO tolerance for EVERY dog owner who lets them run wild. All around me KNOW what I'll do...as 'animal control' is not effective. It's the red fox and coyotes I have problems with. A coyote treed my Cloudy 5 weeks ago and only now after a LOT of love and attention has he 'bounced back' from his PTSD..... Wish I had a carry permit.....and something that hale more than just a single .22long in an 8" barrel....

I had cat problems here .When u ask who's cat no owns it .When cat disappears then all the sudden it belonged to someone . It cost one guy $75. at S.P.C.A. to get his cat back .

That's what I like to do also Fred. When I see em on my land, I tell the owners to keep their animals on their OWN property. I tell em; either you keep them OFF my land, or I'll take care of the problem. No, I don't kill em as it's not really their fault, but their owners. Whether it's a dog or a cat, I catch em and turn them over to the animal control center. Costs them dearly to get them back and they also have to pay for being neutered while in incarceration. Word has gotten around to the neighbors....

Been on both sides of this problem. Back in the day on the farm my grandfather believed in the 3, S's. Shoot ,shovel ,shut up . Few years ago I had a dog that was an escape artist. Probably got loose just a few times, but when he did it always cost me. I paid for a few chickens one time and a vet bill for a neighbors dog that Rocky scrapped with. I paid both promptly and still get along with both neighbors.
Problems occur when animal owner does not take responsibility or take action to keep it from happening.
My friend Mike lives about 3 miles up the road from me . Rural area, small 2 lane country road . His wife likes to jog, run . She has actually competed in a few marathons. Out running she had a dog visiciouly attack her , bit her several times, hospital visit with several stitches. Dog owner very unsympathetic, lawsuits, near fistfights. Long and short the dog was euthanized by the county but Mike and Hidie never saw a dime for medical bills.
Keep your pets under control is the moral of the story.

Zero tolerance on our property. 12 gauge slug keeps them from harming our animals every time. The police and animal control know my rules and have no issues with it.

Apparently a squirt of starting fluid under the tail will teach them something. A few nuts in a bean can hooked to the collar and they run until there heart explodes!

Can honestly state have taken out dogs during deer season that locals released to drive deer. Is already illegal to do here so as the dogs disappear the runners do not say much, cannot open mouth and prove ignorance.

I have a (pretty good otherwise) neighbor next door that has a dog that has bitten several people. They keep him tied up, but he occasionally gets loose. I was underneath a tractor one day and saw him coming at me growling, with the hair on his neck standing up. I grabbed a 15" crescent wrench that I had with me and confronted the dog. The neighbor came running and apologizing. Nothing more was said, but the dog is still tied out and barks constantly when they were away. It seems to me, that more squabbles between neighbors start over dogs than anything else.

Squabbles do not really start over a or the dog(s) but how a Owner attends or lack therof of them. Some people just should NOT be allowed Pets or Animals of any value. Have one currently allows a Female Lab/Pit Bull mix to run loose, she has a tendency to growl and charge. Told him more than once she comes to our home and does this she will NOT return home afoot.
Either chained and barking all night or left loose to prowl as a Cur this guy does NOT deserve a Dog or a Cat or as much as a Mouse for a pet.

Shoot on sight, lost too many lambs to them. Heck, had to shoot my own dog as well, when I walked out and he was killing a lamb. Wife was not happy.

I've never understood 'leash laws' as most (all ) say nothing about requiring the dog MUZZLED and leashed in public. Now to those that say 'not needed'...5 decades ago I saw a cute 6 year old girl disfigured for life due to a leashed dog that bit her BAD...real BAD..
