Used the xt today was running like a champ used it on a 10ft harrow for 2 hours then took a hour and half break then hooked up to the gopher plow and used it for another 2-3 hours then it started making a rattling noise then I stopped got off and walked around it no rattle then got back on drove another 50 feet towards the house then bang grind grind bang grind shake pushed the clutch in and it wound down and stopped after 20 seconds. Shut it down checked both hydraulic oils hydraulic oil looked perfect and trans oil was a bit over filled and foamy but not bad. Fired it back up in neutral and the noise was gone then put it back in gear and let the clutch out and grind thunk bang grind thunk and the tractor shook like heck coming from ahead of the transmission. Tried it in all gears and it did the same so I shut it down.

It does nothing with foot clutch in. In gear or not. With it in gear clutch out PD in low neutral or high it grinds shakes and bangs like heck. The tractor only had high range when the oil is cold.I was in low when it happens. I guess my pd job might be a sooner rather than later. Is there anything else between the foot clutch and the power director to check as well for failure that could cause the grinding and vibration?

If the Power Director clutch has exploded internally, you keep screwing around running the engine and you'll be replacing the whole torque tube housing too !!!  I've never seen one, but have heard about torque tubes with a hole blown clear thru them under the platform. If the Power Director clutch has only been working on one range, the broken discs have probably sawed the clutch housing in two pieces.
