The tach on my 7020 started a new trick this year. I will start the tractor and the tac will work for about 5 minutes then nothing. It's done this three times this year. Last year about every other time I used the tractor I would start the tractor the tac wouldn't work for the first few minutes then it was like a light switch and it would work and stay working. Is there a pickup sensor somewhere that's finally given out? Thanks

First thing, tighten fan belt. If  alt. pulley is Shiney in the bottom, replace pulley and belts.                  MACK

Luke, the tach gets its signal from an output on the alternator...

Like them all, but love the "B"s.

I had something similar years ago on a 7000 and a 7020.  Wasn't long after playing that trick that it needed a new alternator.
Life is simpler when you plow around the stump.

My 7020 did that and it was the alternator going bad.
