OK, do they ,south of the 49th, play this game ? Gas was 1.15/litre 1hr ago now it's 1.25/litre. That's a 10 cent jump, or 40 cent jump per USG. Wait long enough, say mid afternoon or later at night and it'll be back to 1.15ish. hmmm. While GasBuddy show daily prices, I'd like to see the hr by hr data. I KNOW it's a scam to get more cash outta drivers, just curious . Jay

They have been doing that since 1973 when they created the gas shortage, that I can remenber! They are doing that with milk and butter in my area for about the past two months , milk 4.05/gal., use to be 3.50, butter 3.65-4.00/lb., use to be 2.00-2.50. I guess those dairy farmers are making a killing!!!

Haven't seen the hourly price change thing in my area that I have noticed.
But with the electronic signs and the ease of changing prices from inside the store I could see them upping the prices during the morning and afternoon rush hour and lowering them during the slower traffic times.

Same type of stuff around here. Higher on the weekends. Used to change price by a few cents but now jumps 30-40 cents at a time but doesn't come down so quickly. Crude prices change very little but gas is all over the place. Can't see the reason for all the price changes other than they want to jack us around. Had to break down and get some $2.76 gas at Wally World Friday. Across the road at Speedway was $2.80.

It does the price jump here and then slowly comes back down a little above were it was for a few days and the does the big price jump again. And so on. Just wrote the check for my Speedway bill last night and was $836+ for the month. I do the points rewards thing and have enough for two $50 in "free" gas. I've calculated it out a couple times and I think it reduces my cost $.21 per gallon. If you know of something better let us know and if in the area I'll switch.

Ours here is almost always a few cents to a dime higher than 20 miles away, in ANY direction, the cost of a tourism town.
Have seen prices jump $.10-.15 in a day elsewhere that in a week finally hit here, some of that has to do with spot market(Stations that only pay for what they sell as they sell) and instant market where a station pays up front monthly for fuel at a specified contract rate and sells slowly. Is a third game where high volume stations(two to three truck loads per week) where their pricing can change daily or every other day. |

The price is plenty high out here, and other than when crude prices are jumping I have never seen them change more than once a day.
One time as I was filling the tanker pulls in and driver takes paper work in,I hank the nozzle back up and the price posted in the pump jumps up. I forget but from 5 20 cents more. And the "new" gas was still in the truck. But that was some years ago. Maybe when the Gulf War started and nobody knew how high things could go. One of the cheap places if you call 3.699 cash cheap ,cards cost you 10 cents a gal more. They have 8 gas pumps 4 of which also have diesel and a 2 pump diesel only island too. And nobody with a semi tries to fill there just the jacked up kids and contractors running 350 to 550 size trucks. But as many tankers as I see unloading they are getting more than on load a day. Generally they change between 10pm when they close to when they open at 6am. But if you don't know were to go the on the hyway ones are at or over $4.00 here and the cheap ones are only 2 blocks away.
