Hi AC Team:

Anyone here restored a 400 winch on the H3 machines.  Am wondering if parts are still available and if perhaps the unit was manufactured by Carco.

Any insights greatly appreciated.

I recently purchased an HD4 with a 403 winch. I'm guessing same as the 400? Anyway mine sat for a long time and when engaging it to pull it would not pull anything heavy. After looking into possible reasons I found the friction material peeling off as it had degraded over time.
Best thing I did so far was to buy a manual (Jensales) and though not descriptive it helped with taking it apart. The countersunk Allen head bolts were a real pia to get out but afterwards I found everything in good shape but started looking into parts availability and doesn't seem promising. Not sure who actually manufactured the winch but sounds like carco.
Was able to get the clutch band relined. I found a place in the Portland OR that seemed knowledgeable on the subject. As I get more info I'll certainly pass it on.
