Onan engine for A.C. 720

I've bought a 720 Allis that had been re powered, before I bought it, with a B & S engine.  The Onan engine came with it. I don't know anything about the Onan, or why it was replaced. I have a guy that wants it. We will check to see if it has compression.
What we would like to know is what would be a fair price to put on this Onan engine ?

Hope no one gets mad but,Tracy I'm amazed I've had one several times for $100 and not been able to sell, I have three that would gladly take $250 ea for them Just my $.02

If it has good components, carb, ignition, flywheel, especially charging system, $250 is cheap for someone needing those parts. Try pricing them and you will know what I mean. I had to buy new charging system due to a small fire that melted the wiring and it was over $300 from Onan. Bad deck bearing caught grass clippings on fire that were laying on top of the deck. Shorted the wires and melted them all the way to the stator.

If it was mine I would rip out the B&S and re-build and re-install the Onan.

Have you priced out rebuilding an Onan?  Mine was rebuilt before I bought it.  Previous over spent over $2000 rebuilding it, I got all the receipts with the tractor.

The Onan Parts are not cheep. I try and Buy all the Onan engines I can for parts or for Replacement in other tractors. Around here there are hard to come buy.

About 15 Years ago I needed a Block pistons carb, intake I found on from a Guy that has a shed of them It cost 400.00 for a short block. He wanted the tin work and starter. He gets 400.00$ he had a new oil pan for the one I have He said that would be $900.00

He gave me a good deal

I picked up 2 for my son out in Western MN - paid $200 each for them - one is suppose to be rebuilt - other is all there but questionable of why it was removed from AC tractor . He is planning on replacing engine in his small skid loader which will be a 3 Onan up for sale when he gets new engine for the loader

Agreed you can not beat a well seasoned cast iron engine block.
