im working on a 1600 oliver with a 1800 or 1850 engine (wont know till i get crank out) this engine has sat for a while and it ran the first time today . i took the manifold off and the exhaust ports are bout pluged with carbon . and the intake manifold has 3 nice holes and the other 3 sucked the gaskets in to the middle of the hole and there is carbon built up in the holes that have the gaskets messed up . this is not turboed what causes this mess lol Shawn

It sounds like it could have had different problems over time. The burned out manifold could be from running lean and that could be caused by a warped manifold that wasn't sealed or maybe the block surface isn't flat.
The carbon-ed up part could be from burning oil or leaking exhaust valves???
