I'm restoring a 1950 WD45 for a friend (I grew up with IH tractors, please don't hold that against me, I'm just trying to help a guy out). I'm having trouble stopping a leaky PTO before I paint. I've replaced the lip seal between the shaft and the (3 bolt) retainer with good success. However, I'm still getting a drip on the bottom of the gear box, it appears the oil is oozing through the shim pack on (used to set the taper bearings) or weeping out the bottom bolt hole on the retainer. The book I've got doesn't show any additional seal or oring between the bearing retainer and the housing. I've had it apart twice, the second time I tried smearing some RTV on the pilot diameter between the retainer and the housing, but it's still drips. It's not leaking out of the lip seal, is there another seal or something I've missed? I don't see any cracks in the retainer and the bolts are about a tight as I feel comfortable without stripping them or breaking the retainer.

Probably coming thru the shim pack. Might have a little grit between some of them or one thats wrinkles a litte. Also put some sealer on the bolts when you put them back in. good luck!! 0949498 |

Did you check the PTO shift lever, there's a small seal there , that's where mine leaks out, didn't think of changing it when I changed the main shaft seal. John
