They were 42 to 43 at the belt pulley / pto. They lose a few horses in the gearing.

Either 45 hp at the engine or at corrected sea level belt hp they were at 45 hp. Not sure my sentence is all that coherent this morning.

I think the 45 stands for forty five. The belt HP was tested at 44.13 though. What does the WD stand for?

I guess that doesn't make sense with the WF because it was earlier than the WD, and then there was no WE tractor, I think I'm confusing myself.

Wonder Dart: Because we always wondered where it was going to dart next! It's a narrow front, well worn and rather exciting to drive in road gear.

Randy, I don't think I can get the seat back that far with my long legs!!. I have thought about making a new handle that would stand up beside the steering shaft for the hand clutch!!

From memory let's take a look at the questions.
What does the WD stand for.
The W series tractors were WC - W tractor cultivation or narrow front - WF W tractor wide front or wheatland type. The WD was the successor to the WC or WD next letter.
What does the 45 stand for in the WD-45
Answers above are basically correct in that the 45 was the about horsepower of the engine with the 4.5 stroke.
Hope this is some help.
Good luck!

I'd say 45 stands for the number of competitors the engineers expected her to put to shame and we all know how AC underrated its machines(hp) at first but often had to make changes once one was actually tested.

Maybe wishful thinking on AC's part. If they could have introduced the WD45 in 1945, instead of 8 years later, the other tractor companys might never have been able to catch up to them, AND if the D series came out in 53, it may have sealed the deal . And we would never heard of agco. |

Gary, It was the 1946 strike that killed AC. We could have sold anything after WWII and even though we were a small dealer we only got 6 tractors in 1946. Most of them C's.
The income lost from that Communist Led strike was the start of the closing of Allis Chalmers.
Good Luck!
