Finally got our potatoes planted last high. Usually like to get then in the ground by May 10th. But, with the late spring and rain we've been getting, I can't complain to much, we need the moisture. Just hope I got a good enough kill on the rye. Like to let it sit for a week before planting to make sure.
The WD 45 likes this easy work. 2nd gear at idle. |

Nice. Your wiring harness looks just like mine. Not OEM but functional. Good luck with the potatoes.

Yeah, that's a cancer stick hanging out of my mouth. Only vice I have left. I quit drinking Sept 29 2005.
Mom took the pic. Her and wife had most of the seed cut before I got there. Had supper in the field. Tractor was at an idle in second gear so flap wasn't hardly lifting. Dug the rye with the field cultivator week ago Monday. Hit it again Tues night with field cultivator then 2 passes with disc. Been planting rye in the fall the last couple years. Then plowing half in the spring and planting taters, sweetcorn and pumpkins. Using some old time techniques to amend the soil. Rye helps with weed control and by plowing it in helps to loosen and fertilize the soil, about the same as compost. This had rye on it last year. Mowed it off last fall, disced it under then replanted. Edited by truckerfarmer - 17 May 2018 at 9:16pm |

I'm hoping I got them straight enough to cultivate with Dad's 4 row cultivator if I can get it put together this year. |

Just out of curiosity... do you have some type of mechanical lift to raise the potato planter when you get to the end of your row? Or does the bar in front of the person on the planter raise the digger? I've never been around one.

The bar in front is simply a grab handle I added to the planter. This was originally a horse drawn planter. The lift lever is to the left of the seat. It lifts the furrow opener on the front, and the hiller discs on the back. The lever has several notches to adjust depth. The opener can be adjusted for depth by selecting a different hole on it's lift arm, or by rotating the lift arm on the shaft. The closer discs can be moved closer or farther apart, and the shaft can be rotated up or down to change the amount of dirt in the hill over the row. Hope that makes it clear as mud. LOL. |

I don't know about you Shameless. First you says I gots an ugly mug. Then you says good lookin operators.
Ain't you guys figured it out yet, the cigarette is for keeping the rows straight. Line it up with the left front tire like a gun sight. Toothpicks work, but being so small, their harder to see. |

Truckerfarmer, thanks for the reply. I could tell with the wooden drawbar it was originally a horse drawn implement. The last picture and your explanation says it all. Looks like a neat operation.
