Tooth bad on one of three reverse gears. Reverse directly behind park causes a problem with reverse gears. Operator pushes clutch down, pulls shifter from park to reverse, transmission has not stopped yet and gears clash, causing damage to reverse gears. MACK

I believe you can repair it without splitting it.

The only gear that can be replaced without a split is the sliding gear. MACK

If it's the sliding gear, which was made out of softer metal, I believe, than the other two gears, you need to pull both the shifter top and the rear end cover, as the shaft has a retainer that is bolted on the differential side. The new gear will need to be honed to the size of the shaft, so you will need to take them to a machine shop, all assuming that is your problem. The gear is available aftermarket. The other gears are on your transmission shafts. I know the countershaft gear is actually machined into the shaft itself. I can't remember about the top gear.
