I bought a 1959 D17 Series 1 with 226 engine. Owners manual and shop manual are outdated on engine oil, tranny oil,and hydraulic oil. If anyone could please help, I would greatly appreciate. I have mixed findings on engine oil. Not sure the rest. Thanks.

We've always used 15-40 Diesel oil with no problems, I'm talking from when Dad had a D17 diesel along with the WD45 gas and a Massey 44 gas, one barrel for everything. our Standard Oil man said for no more than the difference in cost for the higher spec oil why have two barrels.
The WD45 is still going strong along with a couple WCs, WDs, D17s the, D19d, 7060, 8050 and 8070. We've changed suppliers a few times over the years and currently use FS brand, even use it in the semi's instead of Shell Rotella.

For hydraulic and transmission we use FS trans/hydraulic oil that is compatible with AC 821 fluid. for anything that calls for 90wt gear lube we use a name brand 85/140.
