I am searching for Oil Filter Cartridges for an HD9B. Engine is a 471 Detroit. Machine was built in 1952. Actually I have two HD9B's  with the same standard AC oil filter mounted on the left side of the engine with no numbers or info.  Having trouble finding the right cartridge to fit.  Important:  Measuring the Cartridge Container it appears the cartridge  would measure approx.  1/2"ID x 3 3/4" OD x 7" long.

WEll, make sure you have all the parts inside to hold the filter securely...  I ran across a A JD that somebody forgot to put the spring, seal, plate and snap ring into so there was NO real filtering of the oil... and then I found a McDeering 400 diesel that somebodey didn't bother to put the right filter adapter in... well they didn't bother to put it in, was missing on first filter element so the final filter plugged up. Confused

Try Application Associates under Baldwin Filters. They have application catalogs for most any machine with access to obsoleted filter by other companies that Baldwin still produces. Is where I buy my filters for my 7G.

The correct Baldwin is a cross to AC PF132 is a P20-HD 4 7/16" OD 1 1/2" ID 9 1/16" long.

This has been a standard sized Detroit filter for a long time.

Dmiller, The canister for the cartridge filter is 4 inches inside diameter so of course 4 1/2 inches will not go in . The center pin is 1/2 inches for a sealed fit and the length must be 6- 1/2 inches long, The out side diameter of the cartridge is 3 - 11/16 inches.  Thankyou !

I would like to thank everyone trying to find the correct oil filter for my HD9B. NAPA 1005 tech bulletin has all the correct dimensions but Wix makes their oil filters Wix 551005 which is 1/2 inch too short in height and too large in diameter to fit canister.  I will machine two adapters for top and bottom so a John Deere filters will work.
