Seems as though my D17 series 2 has sprung an oil leak. Leaves good sized puddles under the clutch area. Assuming rear main but haven't taken a hard look. How ugly of a job is this gonna be? Has a wide front and power steering. Service manual makes this sound a whole lot harder than my old WD was. Are the gaskets the same? Parts book shows the little F gaskets to be a different number as is the rear main. Aftermarket parts places list them all the same WD through D17. Any thoughts?

Gasket sets come with both size F gaskets. Pull motor out, turn up side down, and go to work. MACK

Thanks Mack. The service manual makes it sound like I need to pull the front bolster and wide front axle as well as the radiator. Is it that much more of a job than a WD, or can the engine come out without the extra work. I know it'll need split unlike the WD, just hadn't planned on that much extra wrenching.

It's not that bad of a job. Block between the axle and the bolster to keep from tipping and undo the frame rails from the torque tube and roll away. You then have clear access to the engine. Not harder than a WD, just different. If you have power steering the oil pan can't be removed with removing the front end so its easier to pull the engine than just pulling the pan and doing it.

If you haven't already, watch Don's video. Like Mack says pull the engine, turn it upside down and go to work.

You might want to change the seal for the clutch input shaft in the torque tube while you are in there.
