What is supposed to be behind the elbow fitting on the left side of the engine block? I find just a spring and no ball/plunger. Tractor is a turbo diesel. Not sure what purpose is for just a spring and find no mention or pic in book. Looks like parts book only shows th spring on then on turbo but there is a plunger? Any help would be apriciated.

The 2800 block, non turbo routed the oil through the back passage. The turbo or unit with an oil cooler , 2900 , used a spring and a plug to block off the oil and force it through the cooler then back to the block. I would suggest the plug is still in the passage.. 74020862 is the plug.

So the plug is on he inside away from the elbow firing? I put a magnet in the passage and couldn't pull anything out. But if you reinstall the fitting you have to compress the spring.
