Allis Chalmers HD7G bulldozer (Grand Lake)

ALLIS- Chalmers HD7G bulldozer free to whoever will haul it away.

The engine runs when last tried 5 years ago. It does not move but may just need hydraulic fluid.

A great restoration project or haul away for scrap. It sits in a difficult spot.

HD7W was only 14,000# or so, then add on the dozer and attachments.
HD10W weight was about 21,000...
now if it were an HD10, 28,000.
A good stout one ton and a 20,000# gooseneck would possibly do the hauling job for the HD7, anything bigger... need a bigger truck. LOL
Darrel,Going out to Eagle Butte was like 10 hours one way, and your a bit farther.
Do you have some pics you can send me?
Confused Think I is gettin goofie, I try to pick up stuff that moves on its own, an yours is basically dead anchor.Wacko ...LOL

Been thru Granby on the scooter, have a HD7G and could always use a parts machine, just is too far out to warrant.

Part of the problem of getting it is once it's on a trailer, you have three choices of which road to take but they all require going over a pass of at least 10,000 feet.  Better have a Jake brake or really good gears and brakes!

Coming out of Granby on old 40 would be fun, not too scary and the old 24,000 pound machine would be a little load for many of today's trucks.  Down hill into Denver I-70 isn't bad, some steep points but still not bad.

I got a message on my phone today, wondered if it was you Anthony, as there was no name with it.  I found the machine on Google Earth, doesn't look all that hard to get out if it will start.  Will have to go up a hill then down a driveway, fairly straight, to the highway.  I'm busy driving a hay wagon on weekends until Halloween, so guess I'll pass on going to look at it.  Still have some hay to do this week too.

Yeah I looked it up on Google Earth also.  Best I can see, is it is a half day job if I hire a wrecker or an excavation company to bring up a Cat.  I spoke to the owner, it doesn't move.  Going up today to access the situation, and formulate a plan.

Oh my, don't take 70. Run the canyon. If it's good enough to run beer on, it's good enough to run old iron on. Used to run kitty litter to G.J. around Lookout that way. While crooked it sure was easier on the old truck.

Orange, have a report yet?
The trouble with taking highway 6 (the canyon) is all the crazy drivers going and coming from Blackhawk and Central City casinos.  Also rock slides on that road.  Any more, I just gear down and take 70 to the bottom.

Well, this will be fun!!!

The crawler is definitely down in a hole so to speak!  Shocked

There is a shelf of land this gentlemen calls his lot.  The road above is about 25 feet up a 45 degree bank, the flat area, and then about a straight drop off down to the lower road some 30 feet.  houses on both ends.  I think what happened, is one of two things, the machine was taken down the upper embankment, and then couldn't get out under it's own power (Weak Torque Converter) or it was used to dig the foundation of one of the houses, and somebody parked it there thinking it could be driven up the embankment, or some other variant.

It appears to be an "A" model, the machine is very straight, but the rails are shot, the pins are shot.  Does anyone have a picture of the rear sprockets close to new.  The sprockets look pretty good, but I don't have a good picture of a rear sprocket to see if this one is worn or not.  Tops of the teeth are still flat, at least a 1/4" or more, so not sure what they have to start with.

It appears to run, as someone played with it recently, it has been moved by means of tilting the bucket, digging in and pushing back, so the hydros work. The turbo is gone, and bypassed, the radiator grill was taken recent;y, as was the operators floor plate, bolts haven't rusted yet.

It will be fun digging it out.  I found a guy who is considering what he will charge to take his large excavator and pull it up the hill, I am also thinking I will go back up for a weekend and tinker on it, to see what i can make happen.  Maybe with some luck, changing filters, and replacing oil, I can make the old girl come to life.

Well, it could be worse.  Hopefully filters and oil will get it up the hill.  On GE it's hard to see contours but I assumed the hill was pretty steep.  A HS classmate had a backhoe in the area but he passed away a year or so ago and i don't know what became of the machine.  You needed a project to keep you from getting bored, Anthony, and here is one that saves an AC, can't get much better then that!

General gear should have pieces to reset a turbo as they had at least two 7G's in the yard.  Sprockets do not sound bad, mine has less than 3/16 tooth at the points and are still in spec. If the rails are that shot then could be an issue.   AC sized Rails are not available where used Cat 6.906 rails from a 953 will work but shoes will need be cut down for side clearance and at least one link removed for adjustable range.

Base hydraulics for bucket are run from the tank aside the operator and a crankshaft front mounted pump, has nothing to do with trans or steering systems. Base weight of a 7G is 24,000.

Where in that area of Grand Lake is it?  We stopped at the lake park overlook back in 2012 when traveling thru on motorcycles as we headed for the Nat'l Park into Estes.

Had a similar instance at Lake Ozark MO.  Used excavator really cheap, guy "just wanted gone".   As I drove up could see boom but was sitting between two buildings against a cut rock bluff less than 30 feet to road.  He thought a person could clean a shallow cut slope to drive it out but the calculated angle was 60 degrees in more or less solid rock and in no way would work.  Far as I know the machine is a yard ornament as no one will make any attempts to get it out.   Would have to be disassembled to remove by crane.  Why is it someone does something dumb and blocks a machine where they cannot remove it they think there is someone that can on the cheap?

It is about half a mile south of the Main Grand Lake entrance of US34.  Not visible from the highway, since it sits on a shelf above the highway.  I am thinking the rear end has been replaced, because the serial number on the rear is 4 digits and doesn't match the other two serial plates on the machine.  The other plates I think were dealer applied, one on the left cylinder mast as you climb on, and the other on the face of the left side of the seat arm rest.  It appears to be a very late original 7G model, right before the B.

I brought up GE, and dropped to street view where it is visible pointed roughly NE along the highway with a cabin basically at the back of the fuel tank?  If that is it, it will be a bugger to get out.  Most likely the cabin builder set it there not realizing what he had done as to blocking it in.   I rode right past t in 2012, watching road and lake which was horribly low then.

Since I don't "own" it yet, and since I am certain the last guy who attempted to get it out now has the pieces, I doubt anything can be done.

You got it DMiller, it now faces mostly East, and they got it turned so it could be pulled up the hill but that is as far as they got.

there was a car i really wanted one time a 1957 plymouth it was cheap but it was parked next to a house the lady had an addition added on and on the other end was a big oak tree so unless someone spent thousands on getting the tree taken down and stump ground it was there as far as i know its still there probably rent on the cabin was worth more to the owner than the loader is to him

Well, I don't know, but it sure don't look to bad to go down hill, except ye have to make sure you don't hit the ped in the ditch... or hook the road or make tracks in the bank- DOT might not like ye...
If you can walk her north east , it seams there is a shallower place to come down to the road...about th third or fourth place up...Maybe offer them something to drive through... ... don't know, was just some thoughts.

I looked at that option, and the picture is deceiving.  That drop is about 30 feet, and about a 60 degree bank.  In a machine that doesn't move under it's own power 'yet' hopefully, and one I know nothing about the brakes, onto a heavily traveled US highway with only the standard 8 foot shoulder...........I am too conservative to try that.  Not to mention if I overrun the highway, on the other side is an even steeper drop with trees and and a lake.  That would make for one hell of a YouTube video. Wink
