It's just too bad that some folks tend to get upset bout the use of the term "Restoreation" when other owners refer to these great projects on bringing these tractors back from fence rows, woods, barns and making em "whole" again,,,,by what ever means and direction the owners want to use. To use a now very popular cliché,,,"what difference does it make,?"
And honestly and truly,,,what difference DOES it make,?? The most important thing here should be to call attention to the great work all the owners are doing in bringing em "back" from their would be final resting place,,,!! Some will go "All out" and bring em back to "As good as or better than new", and some will just clean them up, replace what parts and pieces need replacing, "Call em Good",,,and put em to work. These are all personal preferences, sometimes dictated by availability of MONEY,,,and some like Ole Hubnut, want to put THEIR personal stamp on the project,,,,cause it's theirs,,, and THAT'S what is important.
I think people do more harm when they call down others because of the "mis-use" of the term "restoration" AND ,,,,really Guys,,,it should be anything the owners want to use to describe "THEIR" project,,,,,
ps,,,,I used the term "Rebuilding" on my Series II and now the D14 Industrial,,,,cause that's what I'm doing,,, ,,
   ,Ya'll give me a pair of minutes to shut down my computer 'fore the bad words start comin,,,,,,,

Too bad you don't live near me I got more ground then tractors.... having a hard time getting mine to run well enough to get the fields cleaned up and back into production.

 That was might fast turn around on the single front wheel tractor! You must be pretty good with a wrench!
It sure looks good in its work clothes and some clear to stop the rust for a while.

Just about done with the mechanical restoration of the CA Ginger.  (Not a cosmetic restoration).  I am pleased with this tractor.  Very strong and runs beautifully!  I've ordered the correct tire for the front from Miller Tire.  The hand clutch from Rick C works great.  Now I see why the hand clutch is so desirable.  I'm waiting on a few parts from another member (battery box top, side, hands for the snap coupler).  She's a keeper!

That is neat looking with the cream front on you c. Don't think I remember seeing that one before. You do some really nice custom colors. They would stand out nice at a show.

Put Maggie to work today.  Got the engine and bolster on Ginger.  The gin pole sure made that easier.  I was going to use the cherry picker, but Maggie held it right steady and it mated easily.  I've been wanting a sfw tractor for a while.  They look kinda goofy in person.  I do like it though.  I hope to get her reassembled tomorrow and driving.  She's ugly on the outside, but inside she's completely gone through.

Got the my hand clutch back from Rick C tonight.  Wow!  It looks brand new!  Thanks Rick!  Fast too!  New bearings and it went together in minutes without any problems.  Rick also turned the drum.  Nice.  I should have this puppy back on the tractor and rolling again soon!

Got a new rim and an old tire on it.  I'm making progress.  The engine was running great from this tractor, so I pulled the pan, checked tolerances, cleaned things up, new main seals (front and rear), a few straight push rods, buttoned things up and clear coated it.  Rick C has finished my hand clutch and I should get it this week.  I can start assembly after that.  New brake shoes, new rear seals, new bearings in the final drives.  I need to tackle the pump.  Sorry for poor pics.  I didn't take the time to photo things as I went.

Got the tire off the rim and the wheel off the rim.  I had to cut two of the eccentrics off.  I did the charcoal trick that Ted showed me.  I think they are all okay.  As you can see, the rim is toast.  At least it's beyond my skill level.  I've seen others tackle this job successfully, but it's not for me.  Glad I have a current tetanus shot.  I'm going to order a new rim tonight.

Well it wouldn't be worth that much to me Chris.   They are nice but that is alot of cash for the size. There is a d17 diesel in craigslist here probably needs alot of work but I Keep looking thinking I wish I had the cash to get it. The price is 2500 probably a really good deal but you can't spend what you don't got and I got too many other things I need to spend money on right now. If it is there is 6 months it might find its way here just not now.

I just happened to check on D12 values in general. Got down to page 3 or 4 and there is a Craiglist ad. I pop it open and sure enough its the D12 I was taking about. Maybe they are pretty scarce? He wants $8000 for it. Its a nice tractor. I seen it before he worked on it.

Great to see you fixing up another one!!! You won't bother me to call anything that has been fixed up mechanically restored. Now if you just sand blast paint and try to sell as restored you would never hear the end of it. But you do an amazing job going through these tractors and I love to see that. Only wish I had the time and money to go through my stuff like that. Well ok and the knowledge everytime I start something I end up with about a million new questions.

Yes.  I've done it both ways.  If you put the seal on first, sometimes it's difficult to get the shaft through the bearing.  I usually use a block of wood on the hub flange and gently tap it home.  It helps a lot if you can get the inner bearing started because it aligns the shaft properly.  Otherwise, the shaft may get started crooked on the outer bearing and bind.  I've also slipped the seal over the hub, then pressed the bearing on, then installed the hub in the drive.  Doing this way makes driving the seal into the recess a little tricky.

Steve, I am a couple weeks behind you, just tore my final drive apart today. The snap ring that sits between the seal and outer race next to the break housing, did you pull that out? I had to slip the race out between the bull gear that I loosened off. Can't imagine how one can get the snap ring out

Made a little progress.  The right final drive was a mess.  I sent the hand clutch to Rick (MO) for rebuilding.  While it was out, I got the final drive cleaned and refurbished.  Notice that there was no inner bearing.  It had rusted away long ago.  Even the race was trash.  Driving that race in was tough with it inside the drive.  All new seals and bearings.  Once I get the clutch back it will be ready for installation.  Working these final drives is tough work!
